The 21st Century has seen some great advancements in the technology of the home PC. DVD burners are standard in most new computers which spells bad news for all those DVD projects that don't have any type of copy protection.
In 2005 the
British Video Association
studied the effects of DVD piracy on the film industry. The results were shocking. Financial losses from Copied, Bootlegged, and Downloaded versions of DVD's amounted to
more than £818 million, £450 million of that was lost from potential DVD Sales.

| How PROTECT-R Works |
- Once we receive your Master DVD-R, we create an ISO (short for ISO 9660, an international standard devised for storing data to discs) which is an
all-inclusive file of the disc.
- PROTECT-R then encapsulates the ISO file with a small, passive piece of software.
(less than 1MB in size)
- The original DVD audio and video files are not encoded in any way, so playback quality is unaffected.
- The encapsulated ISO is burnt with a proprietary burning programme, and the finished product is a copy-protected DVD-R master disc.
- DVD players read the disc normally because PROTECT-R is put on a section of the disc not read by DVD players.
- PROTECT-R makes DVD ripping software think that the disc is empty, so the process is unsuccessful.

*Note: PROTECT-R cannot copy-protect files that lie outside the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Data such as
DVD-ROM files that lie outside these folders will become corrupt and un-readable. |
